The Dark Eye Skills
The skills list is based on the original The Dark Eye 5ed skills, however some of them were removed and some were slightly simplified in order to fit the text-based game-play.
Below are five skill groups. Each of them contains up to six skills. Some are original pen&paper skills, others are collective. For example Handiwork includes many original skills: Clothworking, Earthencraft, Leatherworking, Metalworking and Woodworking. Since story-games do not provide many crafting opportunities it was decided to merge them into one skill.
Physical Skills
Carouse (SGC/CON/STR)
Heroes who are not susceptible to alcohol will quickly gain respect in the local taverns.
Climb (COU/AGI/STR)
The ability to climb steep surfaces will help your hero reach new heights, or at least not to hit the bottom in a critical situation.
Dance (SGC/CHA/AGI)
Dancing is good for your hero’s health. And dancing beautifully can also be good for his money pouch.
Pickpocket (COU/DEX/AGI)
Emptying pockets is quite dangerous, but nevertheless the fastest and most effective way to get rich.
Stealth (COU/INT/AGI)
Sometimes, knowing how to hide can help you avoid a lot of trouble. And sometimes, it can even save your life!
Swim (AGI/CON/STR)
Although swimming is rarely in demand, it should still be exercised. It would be a shame if your hero drowns in a pond.
Social Skills
Disguise (INT/CHA/AGI)
Sometimes it can be helpful to appear to be someone else. The skill encompasses not only the disguise itself but also the necessary gestures and facial expressions.
Etiquette (SGC/INT/CHA)
Adventurers granted the honor of standing in the company of important dignitaries or nobles must mind their manners.
Fast Talk (COU/INT/CHA)
A silver tongue, quick wit, cogent arguments, and teasing are all traits of a fast-talking hero who likes to lie and ‘sweet talk’ people.
Intimidate (COU/INT/CHA)
With this skill, you can threaten, berate, or insult another person to induce fear or obtain information.
Seduce (COU/CHA/CHA)
Seduction is the art of using charisma and good looks to get somebody to do what you want, even if just temporarily.
Streetwise (SGC/INT/CHA)
It helps to make your way through seedy neighborhoods, find the right contacts, and locate a cheap place to sleep for a night.
Nature Skills
Nature (SGC/DEX/INT)
A high level of this skill requires deep knowledge of herb lore, animal lore and fishing.
Survival (COU/AGI/CON)
To survive in the wilderness you need to know how to find a suitable place to camp, prepare and build a sleeping place, and gather firewood to make a fire.
Track (COU/INT/AGI)
Make a Tracking check to find a trail in the wilderness or follow a criminal fleeing through a forest.
Knowledge Skills
Gamble (SGC/SGC/INT)
This skill covers various board, card, and dice games, playing techniques, strategies, winning combinations, and probabilities.
Geography (SGC/SGC/INT)
The hero knows how to read maps, finds his way to a destination, identifies passes and safe fords, estimates a journey’s length and the dangers it might pose.
History (SGC/SGC/INT)
The hero remembers old legends, stories, and songs that stretch back into the past of Aventuria.
Mechanics (SGC/SGC/DEX)
Knowledge of mechanical laws such as lever principles, friction and inclined planes, pulleys, cogwheels, gears and traps.
Science (SGC/SGC/INT)
Erudition in the scientific field includes knowledge of laws, magical lore, sphere lore, astronomy and some basic arithmetic.
Warfare (COU/SGC/INT)
The hero has a special feel for the flow of battle and can give useful tactical advice to companions in combat.
Craft Skills
Commerce (SGC/INT/CHA)
The ability to bargain and estimate the cost of valuable items will save your hero a lot of money.
Handiwork (SGC/DEX/STR)
Handiwork combines abilities to create items from metal, wood, stone and leather. It also includes cooking and even alchemy.
Heal (SGC/INT/DEX)
A skilled healer can treat wounds, cure diseases, and even neutralize poisons.
Music (CHA/DEX/CON)
Playing musical instruments is not only fun, it can also help your hero earn a few silver coins in the town tavern.
Navigate (DEX/AGI/STR)
Driving carts, ships, and even flying brooms comes in handy for the traveler in a hurry.
Pick Locks (INT/DEX/DEX)
All doors open to a skilled burglar, be it a simple hut door, a treasure chest or a gate to a dungeon.
