The Dark Eye Base Values
The attributes list is based on the original The Dark Eye 5ed rules. Each hero has eight Attributes. The first four attributes are the character’s Mental Attributes; the other four are Physical Attributes. Skill and Derived Values checks depend on the Attribute values.
Attributes
Courage (COU)
Courage stands for fearlessness and decisive action. A high value influences the defense against magic spells and liturgies and prevents a hero from despairing even in the face of great danger.
Sagacity (SGC)
Sagacity stands for good analytical skills, strong logical knowledge, and general knowledge. It also represents a good memory and ability to recall.
Intuition (INT)
Premonition, empathy and gut feeling are the essential components of Intuition. It also stands for making the right decision under stress.
Charisma (CHA)
Personal charm, persuasiveness and a golden tongue - all of these traits are represented by Charisma. Attractiveness can also be derived from this quality, but Charisma is not synonymous with good looks.
Dexterity (DEX)
Dexterity includes the sleigh of hand and fine motor skills. It indicates how well a hero masters the use of lock picks, handicrafts and archery.
Agility (AGI)
Agility represents the the whole body finesse. Reflexes, reaction speed, and mobility all play a role in Agility.
Constitution (CON)
Constitution is a measure of a hero’s stamina. A high Constitution not only provides more Life Points, but also greater resistance to poisons and diseases.
Strength (STR)
Power and muscle control play a key role in the hero’s physical Strength. However, it’s not just sheer muscle power, but also the right technique to use it.
Energies
Life Energy (LE)
2 × Constitution + Racial_Bonus
Life Energy represent a hero’s physical health. Heroes lose life points due to damage from weapons, wounds, poisons or diseases. When LE drop to 0, the hero dies.
Astral Energy (AE)
Base + Primary_Attribute
Astral Energy or Arcane Energy (AE) is the mystical power that enables heroes to cast magical spells. Each spell costs a certain number of AE to cast.
Karma Energy (KE)
Base + Primary_Attribute
This is the energy that Blessed Ones use to cast their divine magic. They receive this power directly from their gods, and use it to perform miraculous spells called liturgical chants.
Resistances
Spirit (SPI)
(Courage + Sagacity + Intuition) / 6 + Racial_Bonus
Spirit is a measure of a hero’s mental resistance to illnesses, magical domination, and certain poisons.
Toughness (TOU)
(2 × Constitution + Strength) / 6 + Racial_Bonus
Toughness is the hero’s physical resistance to poisons, illnesses, and certain kinds of spells and liturgical chants.
Dodge (DO)
Agility / 2
Dodge comes into play when a hero tries to avoid rolling or falling rocks, jump behind cover, or evade the attacks of an armed foe when unarmed.
